BASEMENT JAXX
Atlantic Jaxx Recordings is the legendary house music label established in 1994 by Felix Buxton & Simon Ratcliffe, better known as Basement Jaxx.
Since starting life as underground producers and party promoters in 1995, putting out their first tracks on shrink wrapped vinyl and throwing hush-hush raves in abandoned South London pizza joints, Basement Jaxx have taken the sound of London, SW9 to the
world.
While accruing album sales of more than 3 million, including 2005’s double platinum UK No.1 collection “The Singles”, performing legendary live shows, and winning two Brits & a Grammy, the Jaxx, now signed to XL, have continued to release tracks by other artists under the Atlantic Jaxx imprint as well as some of their more “underground” tunes & the occasional “cheeky one” under pseudonyms (you work it out!). Atlantic Jaxx was the place where the world first heard the production skills of Basement Jaxx on releases by artists such as Ronnie Richards & Corrina Joseph. It also spawned Basement Jaxx’s first chart hit, the seminal “Flylife” in 1995. There have been two compilations released on CD showcasing the best of the label’s output (“Atlantic Jaxx Recordings – A Compilation” 1 & 2) and Felix has also created (along with Russ Jones) and released two critically acclaimed compilations of Eastern European music entitled “Gypsy Beats & Balkan Bangers “ (1 & 2). The label continues to distribute quality music from the House of Jaxx, the latest being an EP of four club cuts from shadowy SW9 duo, “Nifty”. It is currently putting the finishing touches to a new album for XL, due for release in 2009, Basement Jaxx have just announced UK dates for April 2009 to be followed by a world tour.
